On May 14, 2024, in Conference room A1001, Foreign Trade University, the Management Board of the WTO Chair Program – FTU organized the Opening Ceremony of the Training course on research methods in international trade for young researchers. Attending the opening ceremony were Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thu Huong – Vice President of the University, Head of FTU WTO Chair Program Steering Committee; Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Ngoc Tien – Vice President; Associate Professor, Dr. Trinh Thi Thu Huong \u2013 WTO Chair Holder, along with experts, lecturers, members of the program management board, and young researchers in the training course.<\/span><\/p>\n

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thu Huong – Vice President of the University, Head of FTU WTO Chair Program Steering Committee, in her opening speech, expressed her joy that the course was being implemented after a period of preparation and anticipation. She particularly emphasized the sustainability and connectivity of this course, with the most important goal being enhancing research capacity on international trade issues for young researchers. She also expected that with the companionship and guidance of experts, leading professors in international trade, the course would provide learners with the most modern and up-to-date perspectives, approaches, and research methods. Lastly, she encouraged young researchers to actively study and be creatively engaged throughout the course to gain more value for themselves and their research work.<\/span><\/p>\n

Within the framework of the opening ceremony of the course, Dr. Pham Thi Cam Anh – Head of the Research Pillar of the FTU WTO Chair Program provided an overview of the course: Objectives, Lecturers, Program content, Duration, Outcomes and Course requirements. Accordingly, the objectives of the course are to provide a systematic understanding of economic and legal research methods in international trade; meanwhile, learners will have access to new research directions, current prominent issues in international trade. They will apply advanced and modern economic and legal research methods in in-depth studies on international trade. The course will be divided into 2 stages: Basic and Advanced, with 15 theoretical lessons, practical guidance, mentoring led by leading experts, experienced lecturers, and researchers on international trade. The content of the course focuses on: PTAs, exploiting and analyzing enterprise data and industry data in trade research, gravity models, international trade law research, practicing modeling, publishing research papers in reputable international trade journals, etc. At the end of the training course, learners will be awarded a completion certificate and encouraged to have at least one research paper published in reputable journals or scientific conferences.<\/span><\/p>\n

After the opening ceremony, the course commenced with the first session on “Past and future of Preferential Trade Agreements” taught by Prof. Manfred Elsig – Deputy Managing Director, World Trade Institute, University of Bern (Switzerland).<\/span><\/p>\n
