Agricultural products are one of Vietnam’s key export products in recent times with increasing export value and reaching markets with high demand such as China, the United States, Japan, the European Union, etc. In addition, Vietnam is also making efforts to increase agricultural exports to a number of potential markets such as Muslim countries with Halal products, the Middle East, Africa, etc. Besides the advantages, Vietnam’s agricultural exports still face many challenges, including technical barriers or requirements on quarantine, animal and plant hygiene to green the supply chain or to protect the rights and health of consumers; trade defense measures or other trade measures. This requires Vietnamese farmers, agricultural production and export enterprises to make significant investments to implement green transformation, innovate production and processing methods, machinery and technology, implement technical regulations or international standards, as well as deal with foreign trade remedies.
Therefore, to help agricultural production and export enterprises have more information about trends and policies related to the export and import of agricultural products at home and abroad, international trade agreements that affect agricultural product trade; At the same time, creating a forum for policy makers, researchers, businesses and other stakeholders to exchange and discuss to find appropriate ways to overcome difficulties and challenges, thereby increasing exports in both quality and quantity, the Management Board of the WTO Chair Programme Phase III (WCP)-FTU (Foreign Trade University) and the University of Economics and Law (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City), in coordination with the Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Lieu Province, organized the workshop: “International trade in the new context: Opportunities and challenges for Vietnamese agricultural products” on November 8, 2024 at the Cultural Center of Bac Lieu Province.
